Urban One, Inc. and its family of affiliate and subsidiary entities respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the types of Personal Information we collect, regardless of how it is provided, including through mail, email, telephone, mobile apps, surveys, sweepstakes, contests, social media, websites, and other digital platforms. Please read this Policy carefully; if you do not agree with it, please do not use our Services.
Personal Information is any information that identifies, relates to, or describes, directly or indirectly, an individual or household; it does not include publicly available information or information that has been de-identified or aggregated. This Policy applies to all Urban One Services that link to it, regardless of platform or device, and does not apply to the separately governed One Community service.
Depending on the nature of your interactions with us, we and our vendors may collect: personal identifiers and contact information (name, address, email, phone, social handles, account credentials); content service provider account information; commercial information such as order history and preferences; financial information needed to process payments; internet and network activity such as IP address, browsing behavior, and interactions with our ads and emails; usage information about how you use our Services; device information; and approximate location information derived from your IP address or zip code (we do not collect precise geolocation, though some partners may).
We may also collect demographic and, in limited jurisdictions and with required consent, sensitive information such as age, gender, citizenship, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, or health information; audio and visual content you share with us or recorded customer service calls; and inferences we draw about your preferences and characteristics, which we may use to serve relevant advertising.
We use Personal Information to respond to and complete your requests; manage customer relations and communicate with you, including for marketing purposes you may opt out of; fulfill orders and administer sweepstakes and contests; provide, customize, and improve our websites, products, and services; protect our company, customers, and others, including detecting and investigating fraud; and verify and respond to privacy requests. At this time, Urban One does not knowingly gather sensitive categories of data or engage in profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning individual users.
We collect Personal Information directly from you, from your devices through cookies and similar tracking tools, from vendors who work on our behalf, and from other parties such as business and marketing partners, social media platforms, and advertising measurement partners. We may combine information collected online and offline, and across devices, to better understand consumer preferences and trends.
We and our partners use cookies, mobile advertising identifiers (such as IDFA or Advertising ID), and web beacons to identify your browser or device, recognize returning visitors, and measure engagement with our Services and emails. You can reset your browser or mobile device settings to limit or refuse these technologies, though some features of the Services may not function properly without them; rejecting cookies does not stop all advertising but limits how tailored it is. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.
We determine how long to retain Personal Information based on applicable laws, any legal hold or need to protect the rights of Urban One or others, our ongoing assessment of the data's usefulness in fulfilling a contract or business requirement, and our balancing of reasonable risk considerations related to retaining specific categories of data.
We may share Personal Information across the Urban One family of brands and affiliated companies, including iOne Digital, Radio One, Reach Media, TV One, Cleo TV, BlackPlanet, and Bossip/MadameNoire, to tailor services, products, and advertising; this sharing does not constitute a sale or share under certain privacy laws. Outside Urban One, we share information with service providers who help operate our databases, websites, emails, and advertising measurement; with advertising partners who serve relevant ads (which may constitute a sale or share under state law); on social networks you interact with; with co-branding partners in Co-Branded Areas; in connection with sweepstakes, contests, and promotions you enter; in business transfers such as a merger or sale of assets; and as required by law or legal process.
You may opt out of promotional emails, text messages, and other communications by following the unsubscribe instructions in any message or by contacting unsubcribe@urban1.com, though we may still send administrative emails. BlackPlanet members can verify, correct, update, or delete their information through their BlackPlanet Account Page. Visit our Urban One Privacy Center for more information on exercising your rights and managing preferences.
To opt out of targeted advertising and ad measurement, you can visit the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out page at aboutads.info/choices, download App Choices for mobile in-app tracking, adjust your browser or device privacy settings, or click the Ad Choices icon in an advertisement. You can also learn more through the Network Advertising Initiative at thenai.org. Opting out does not stop all advertising, only its targeting to your interests, and we are not responsible for the effectiveness of third-party opt-out tools.
California residents may request to know, correct, or delete their Personal Information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing, without discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights. California minors (or their parent or guardian) may request removal of content they posted by contacting privacynotice@urban1.com. Under California's Shine the Light law, residents may request information once a year about data shared with other businesses for their direct marketing use. We honor Global Privacy Control signals for opt-out of sale or sharing requests, as required by applicable state law.
Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Virginia may request access, deletion, correction, and opt-out of sale or targeted advertising, as described in this Policy. Nevada residents may submit a request directing us not to sell their covered information, though we do not currently sell such information for monetary consideration in Nevada. Eligible residents may exercise these rights by visiting the Urban One Privacy Center, emailing privacynotice@urban1.com, or calling 1-833-975-2244; authorized agents may submit requests on your behalf subject to verification.
Urban One is a United States company and its Services are provided from the United States. If you reside outside the United States, information we collect will be transferred to and processed in the United States, and by using the Services you consent to that collection, processing, and transfer, including to countries whose privacy laws may not be as comprehensive as those in your home country.
We maintain procedural, technical, and physical safeguards to help protect Personal Information from loss, misuse, or unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No transmission of data is guaranteed to be completely secure, so any transmission to us is at your own risk. If you believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, please notify us using the contact details below.
The Services contain links to third-party websites for your convenience. If you access those sites, their operators may collect information from you under their own privacy policies and terms, which may differ from ours; we do not endorse or control the policies or practices of third-party websites.
Except where otherwise indicated, we do not knowingly collect or store Personal Information from minors under the age of 18. Parents or guardians who believe their child under 13 has provided us with information without parental consent should contact privacynotice@urban1.com so we can take steps to delete the information within a reasonable time.
We may revise this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, technology, or our practices. If we make material changes to how we collect or use your Personal Information, we will provide notice through the Urban One Services. Any changes become effective as of the Effective Date at the top of this page, and continued use of the Services after that date means you agree to the changes. This Policy may be supplemented by Additional Terms explaining how we handle information in specific circumstances.
